Behind the scenes — from fresh blooms to forever keepsake
Your bouquet carried you down the aisle. Now it deserves a lifetime of the same devotion.

You spent months choosing the perfect blooms — the garden roses, eucalyptus, and dusty miller that felt unmistakably you. But once the wedding day passes, those flowers have a very short window before they fade. The good news? With the right timing, bouquet preservation can capture them in their full wedding-day glory.

Whether you're newly engaged, deep in wedding planning, or just said "I do" last weekend — this guide will tell you exactly when to book, what to expect, and why waiting too long is the one thing you don't want to do.

The Short Answer: Book Before Your Wedding Day

Most brides don't realize that bouquet preservation artists often book out weeks — sometimes months — in advance, especially during peak wedding season (May through October). If you wait until after the wedding to search for a preservationist, you may find yourself scrambling while your blooms are already wilting.

The ideal timeline is to book your preservation artist at least 4–8 weeks before your wedding, ideally earlier. This gives you time to vet artists, understand your options, and have a clear plan for what happens to your flowers the moment the reception ends.

Timing, Step by Step

6–12 months before

Research & Discover Your Style

Start exploring preservation methods — resin casting, shadow boxes, pressed flowers, or freeze-drying. Each produces a different look and feel. Follow artists on Instagram, save examples, and think about where you'll display your finished piece.

3–6 months before

Choose Your Artist & Book

This is the golden window for securing your spot. Contact 2–3 artists, ask about their process, turnaround time, and pricing. Pay your deposit. Many artists have waitlists and won't hold spots without one.

1–2 weeks before

Confirm Your Plan

Touch base with your artist to confirm shipping or drop-off logistics. Decide who will be responsible for handing over the bouquet — you, a bridesmaid, or your coordinator. Write it on the day-of timeline.

Wedding day

Keep the Bouquet Fresh

Keep your flowers in water as much as possible between ceremony and reception. After the event, place the bouquet in a vase of fresh water overnight and store in a cool room — never in a hot car. Avoid misting with water directly on petals.

Within 48–72 hours after

Ship or Drop Off Immediately

This is the critical window. The sooner flowers reach your preservation artist, the better the outcome. Most artists will guide you on how to pack and ship overnight. Do not let the bouquet sit for days — time is everything here.

What If I Already Got Married?

All is not lost — but act fast. If your wedding was in the past few days, get your bouquet to an artist as quickly as possible. Flowers that are just beginning to dry can sometimes still be preserved, depending on the method.

If it's been more than a week, pressed flower preservation or creating a memorial piece from dried petals may still be beautiful options. A good artist will be honest with you about what's possible.

Questions to Ask Before You Book

  • How far in advance do you book, and do you have my wedding date available?
  • What preservation method do you use, and what does the final piece look like?
  • What is your turnaround time after receiving the bouquet?
  • How should I store and ship my flowers to you?
  • Do you work with flowers that have already started to dry?
  • Can I see examples from weddings similar to mine?

Why It's Worth It

Bouquet preservation isn't just sentimental — it's the one wedding detail that can stay with you for decades. Unlike photos that live on your phone, a preserved bouquet is a tangible, three-dimensional reminder of one of the most meaningful days of your life.

It can live on a bedroom shelf, in a reading nook, or as a centerpiece in your home. Many couples pass them down as heirlooms. Some artists can even incorporate jewelry, ribbon from the bouquet wrap, or a note from your partner into the finished piece.

The earlier you plan, the more options you have — and the more breathtaking the result.

"Don't let the flowers that carried you down the aisle disappear with the weekend. Give them a forever."
